KABUL (PAN): The minister-designate of refugee affairs has assured he will ensure visas for all Afghans living illegally in other countries and jobs for returnees. Eng. Abdul Rahim said this during his presentation before the Wolesi Jirga on Tuesday as part of the process to get the trust vote. He promised visas and jobs would be provided to refugees in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs. He added the dignified repatriation of refugees, provision of jobs for them inside the country, return of displaced people to their respective areas and provision of others rights were among his top priorities. To a question about the fate of Afghans lingering in jails in other countries, the minister-designate said he would struggle in collaboration with the Foreign Affairs Ministry to get them released. He added the Afghans living in the neighbouring Pakistan were facing more problems as compared to those in other countries. He explained Pakistan could not be pressurised in this regard because the country was not a signatory to UN agreements. If given the trust vote, Rahim promised he would do his bit to resolve the problems of Afghans living as refugees in different countries. Nearly eight million Afghans migrated from their country due to the war. Five million have so far returned. dk/mud
