6 civilians dead in Sangin explosions

LASHKRGAH (PAN): Six civilians have been killed in two separate explosions in the Sangin district of southern Helmand province, authorities said on Wednesday.
The individuals, including three women and as many men, were killed in Malazo village in Sarwan Kala area, a Taliban stronghold.
Omar Zwak, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the resident had left their houses due to harassment at the hands of the Taliban.
However, he said, Afghan security forces cleared the area of the insurgents a day earlier. The civilians were killed after returning to their houses, where the militants had planted bombs.
Zwak added the blasts happened when the people were entering their homes. The security forces were currently busy defusing the explosive devices, he explained.
On the other hand, Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi said the dead were Afghan police and army personnel, not civilians.
