Poll materials reach Helmand districts

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): The police chief for southern Helmand province on Wednesday said elections staff, equipment and other logistic material had been transferred to northern districts of the province.
Maj. Gen. Abdul Qayyum Baqizoy told journalists that election staff and stuff had arrived in Nawzad and Musa Qala districts for the April 5 vote.
Police had been directed to adopt measures to protect staff and polling stations, he said, recalling materials had to be airlifted to some districts during last elections.
However, police and security forces could transport elections stuff to the districts by roads as security had been beefed up throughout the province, he added.
Security offensives in towns and cities were aimed at paving the way for smooth elections, he said, asking people to vote in favour of candidates of their choice without any concerns.
He said stern directions had been issued to police to remain neutral during the process. Sangin, Kajaki, Musa Qala and Nawzad are among the northern districts of Helmand.
