KABUL (Pajhwok): Two people have been detained with 500 voter cards, some of them fake, by police in Kabul, an official said on Thursday.
At a news conference, interior ministry spokesperson said the two individuals were involved in fraud and sale of voter cards.
Ghulam Sediq Siddiqui said Wednesday’s arrests were made in the fifth police district.  “About 495 voter cards are seized from the men who wanted to sell the cards.”
Without giving further details, he accused the men of trying to meddle in the electoral process. Police are trying to know how they got so many voter cards.
He pledged security forces were working to detain and bring to justice those striving to disrupt the process.
According to Siddiqui, several cards were in the name of one person. The interior minister has ordered security personnel to foil fraud attempts and ensure safety of the people.
Though the detainees were shown to journalists, yet reporters were not allowed to question them.
