KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Saturday announced an end to the voting in the runoff presidential ballot.

IEC Secretariat Ziaul Haq Amarkhel told a news conference in Kabul the voting process that began at 7:00am and was completed at 4:00 pm.

He said the election process had been completed successfully. But the people still waiting at some polling centres will be allowed to cast votes.

Amarkhel acknowledged some problems such as shortages of ballot papers were experienced in certain areas. But immediate steps were taken to resolve the problems.

The IEC secretary added they did not extend the voting time because of good weather conditions.

He explained they would give details about the closure of 120 polling centres.
