3 journalists beaten up on Election Day

KABUL (Pajhwok): The National Council of Journalists, demanding solid steps to curb violence against media professionals, on Sunday said three reporters were beaten and two referred to the attorney’s office on the Election Day.

In a statement, the journalists’ body said security forces should assist reporters in filing reports and protect them from being harassed.
The statement said two journalists -- Toofan Omari and Abdul Hameed --- were referred to the attorneys after being beaten up.
The two working for Jakar weekly and Paktia Ghaq Radio were assaulted by an Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) official and then introduced to the attorney’s office.
The statement said a third journalist, Abdul Basir Haqjo, was beaten by officials in northeastern Badakhshan province. The journalists’ body condemned the incidents and called for investigating them.
