Islamabad felicitates Kabul on peaceful vote

ISLAMABAD (Pajhwok): Pakistan on Sunday congratulated Afghanistan on what it hailed as a successful second round of the presidential election, hoping for a smooth political transition.
“We congratulate the people of Afghanistan on the successful holding of the second round of presidential election. The Afghan people, once again, demonstrated firm resolve to determine their future through democratic means,” it said.
A statement from the Foreign Office said the Afghan electoral institutions had the crucial responsibility of ensuring the successful completion of the next steps in the electoral process.
The statement added in wake of fulfillment of its commitment to supporting efforts for a peaceful election, Islamabad reinforced security arrangements along the border, including through additional deployment of troops, increased patrols and aerial surveillance.
Pakistan extended its best wishes to the Afghan people as they continue to move forward in this historic journey and take determined steps for peaceful democratic transition and greater stability in their country.
