Abdullah asked to respect public mandate

LASHKARGAH/TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Residents of southern Helmand and central Uruzgan provinces on Thursday urged presidential candidate Dr .Abdullah to respect their votes.
The call came at a gathering attended by civil society members, tribal elders and youth in Tirinkot, the provincial capital. Participants strongly denounced recent remarks of Abdullah against the electoral bodies.
Malim Rahmatullah, a resident of Tirinkot, said both candidates should trust the electoral commissions and let them investigate fraudulent votes. He added nobody reserved the right to disrespect their ballots.
Abdullah Hatif, hailing from the Chora district, said they would not allow anyone to push the country into a crisis. Elections were one effective way of bringing political stability to the country.
Meanwhile, residents of the Garmser district of southern Helmand province rejected rumours that the number of eligible voters was less than the votes cast.
Tribal elder Saleh Mohammad Safari said the voter turnout had been massive in his town. He said people had defied security problems to exercise their constitutional right.
