Prolonged polls process affects Herat businesses

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Traders and businessmen in this western city of Herat complained on Tuesday their businesses received great setback because of the prolonged electoral process.
Local traders and businessmen told Pajhwok Afghan News that businesses have been affected and on downward trend since last six months. In addition, protest demonstrations by supporters of presidential contender Dr. Abdullah Abdullah has made the situation worst, they added.
Habibullah, a local businessman, warned that further delay in announcing the winner candidate would leave business sector completely paralyzed.
Fareed Ahmed, a trader dealing in import business, lamented that demand for various items considerably decreased due to political wrangling in the country.
Office bearers of Herat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI) also aired same concerns. An official of the HCCI Khalil Ahmad Yarmand acknowledged trade related activities were on downward trend following long-drawn process of presidential election.
The Independent Election Commission (IEC), reassured to announce the results on schedule without any further delay. President Hamid Karzai had reiterated time and again that he would please to transfer power in accordance with the constitution.
