Ballots from 7,000 polling stations to be recounted

KABUL (Pajhwok): In a new breakthrough, representatives of both presidential contenders on Monday agreed on recounting votes from 7,000 polling stations.
Hamidullah Farooqi, a member of presidential runner Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai's camp, told Pajhwok Afghan News the two technical teams had agreed on the recount of votes.
Of the 7,000 polling stations, he said, votes from 2,000 had already been counted while the rest would be tallied again. “We are ready for a recount of votes from all 23,000 polling stations but that should not lead to a delay in results.”
Syed Hussain Fazal Sancharaki, a spokesman for Dr. Abdullah’s team, confirmed they had agreed on a recount of ballots from 7,000 polling stations.
