Female PC runner survives gun attack

MAZAR-E-SHARIF (Pajhwok): A female candidate for the provincial council on Monday escaped unhurt in an armed attack in northern Balkh province.
Farangez Saugand told Pajhwok Afghan News unidentified motorcyclists opened fire on her near Mazar-i-Sharif. She was travelling home in a car along with family members.
All escaped unhurt in the attack, she added. Considered a leading social female figure in Balkh, she was declared winner in the preliminary results of provincial council elections.
Col. Sher Jan Durrani, the police spokesman, said he had been informally informed about the incident. Police started an investigation into the incident.
The attack on Saugand took place at hours after another provincial council candidate, Dr. Ghani Bahadari, was shot dead in southern Ghazni province.
