President accepts CJ’s resignation

KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai on Thursday accepted the resignation of Chief Justice (CJ) Abdul Salam Azimi and awarded him the Ghazi Amanullah Khan Medal, the highest civil award in the country.

A ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace in morning to bid farewell to Azimi. In statement read out on the occasion, Ahmadzai praised the efforts of the outgoing CJ for ensuring the rule of law in the country.

Azimi thanked the president for accepting his resignation and conferring the highest civil award on him. “This award is not just an honor for me; it’s also an honour for the Supreme Court as well as the people of Afghanistan.”

Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah, his aides Muhammad Khan and Muhammad Mohaqiq, the president’s special representative Ahmad Zia Massoud and a number of other officials attended the ceremony.
