Abducted Zabul residents freed in Ghazni

QALAT (Pajhwok): Ghazni residents on Saturday set free 14 persons they had abducted from southern Zabul province following mediation of elders, a public representative said.
The abductees, hailing from Khak-i-Afghan district of Zabul, were kidnapped by some people of Jaghori district of Ghazni last week to avenge the abduction of 30 people from their area last year.
The head of Zabul provincial council, Hajji Ata Jan Haqbayan, told Pajhwok Afghan News provincial council members, lawmakers and elders from Zabul and Ghazni secured the release of the abducted individuals without any condition after few days of mediation.
He asked the government to deal with the abductors in accordance with the law in order to prevent such incidents in future. He said such actions created disputes among tribes.
They were released and were home on Saturday morning after provincial council members and a delegation from Kabul mediated their release, advisor to Zabul governor Ahmad Khalid Safi said.
He said militants wanted to create ethnic and linguistic disputes among tribes, but people were aware of their intensions and could not be misled.
A member of the Zabul provincial council, Asadullah Kakar, happy over the release, said the government should prevent illegal armed groups from operating and disarm them.
He suggested that all problems should be resolved through legal process not by forcing way into people’s houses to kill or abduct them.
