KABUL (Pajhwok): As millions of Afghans go to polls, Pakistan has deployed additional troops on its side of the Durand Lineto ensure smooth and peaceful elections in the country.

KABUL/TALOQAN (Pajhwok): A plot to assassinate a Wolesi Jirga member from western Ghor province has been thwarted, the spy service claimed on Monday, when an intelligence official was killed by his friend after a brawl in northern Takhar province.

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Interior on Sunday said security for 24 polling stations, previously considered as insecure in three provinces, has been ensured.
MoI spokesman Siddiqui Siddique told a press conference in Kabul 19 of the sites were located in Ghor, three in Kapisa and two in Badakhshan provinces.
He said currently 390 polling sites in 11 provinces remained under high security threats, but Afghan forces were making efforts to ensure these sites were protected.

KABUL (Pajhwok):  Police officers, intending to campaign for or against presidential candidates, should resign before plunging into politics, warned the Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Thursday
The ministry stressed police must be impartial in the election process and warned officers found taking sides would have to face legal consequences without exception.
President Karzai also has called on government officials to maintain neutrality and avoid taking sides or misusing government machinery.
