KABUL (Pajhwok): The Wolesi Jirga on Wednesday rejected with a majority vote the draft budget for the current fiscal year due lack of balance and other serious problems.
Afghanistan’s fiscal year begins on December 22. The draft was approved by the Council of Ministers and then Meshrano Jirga sent it to Wolesi Jirga with some recommendations on Dec 9.

PUL-I-KHUMRI/FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): A public representative from northern Baghlan province escaped unhurt but one of his guards was wounded in an armed attack, an official said on Wednesday.

Wolesi Jirga member Ashiqullah Wafa came under attack from suspected militants on the Baghlan-Kabul highway while returning home, police spokesman Javed Basharat told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The attackers fled the scene before the arrival of police in the area, Basharat said, adding that the parliamentarian had not informed them about his travel.

KABUL (Pajhwok): Outspoken parliamentarian Ramazan Bashardost and Defence Minister Bismillah Mohammadi on Wednesday dubbed each other a killer and an enemy’s agent.

The exchange of barbs came during the Wolesi Jirga session, where interior and defence ministers, as well as the intelligence chief, were summoned to brief lawmakers on the current wave of insecurity in the country.

Interior Minister Omar Daudzai told the lower house the security forces were capable of dealing with a possible crisis resulting from the current presidential election deadlock.

KABUL (PAN): President Hamid Karzai is interested in concluding the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) with the United States before the April 5 elections, his foreign minister said on Sunday.
At a joint news conference with his visiting German counterpart in Kabul, Zarar Ahmad Usmani said the BSA text was complete, needing no amendments.
